This new addition to The Carver Academy allows students to create sound effects for movies, record each other's piano and band performances, and cleanup voiceover work used in their daily news broadcasts. Microphones, keyboards, mixers, instruments, and industry-standard software engage students in collaborative projects that many college students never get to experience. "These tools and experiences are not about creating professional musicians-although that's certainly possible," notes music and technology teacher Phil Castillo. "This studio is about providing an environment for creative thinking, student collaboration, technology education, and self discipline. The final product may be a new soundtrack for an old movie, but the byproduct of working with others toward a common goal is a skill that will last the students a lifetime."
